Before leaving
- Be sure to ask for medical advice, especially if you:
- are under a doctor´s care
- suffer from a chronic illness
- have recently been in a hospital
- are pregnant (If you are in your ninth month of pregnancy, you must obtain medical approval from Air France_ask our reservations service for additional information).
- Remember to get vaccinated
Some vaccinations involve a series of injections. Plan your vaccinations well in advance and make sure you leave enough time to see the doctor before you travel. It´s better to be only partly vaccinated than not vaccinated at all, and you can receive further injections abroad or when you return home. Remember that some countries require vaccinations before they will admit you into the country. - Get treatment for upper respiratory tract infections before leaving since pressure changes can damage your ears. During the flight, the cabin pressure is equivalent to an altitude of 2,400 m (8,000 ft), which holds no risks for passengers in good health. For similar reasons, we recommend that passengers wait at least 12 hours before flying if they have been underwater diving. -Reduce the effects of jet lag:
- if flying east: go to bed early in the days leading up to your flight.
- if flying west: try to stay up as late as possible.

Your stay
- Watch out for infectious or parasitic illnesses, especially in hot countries. These are often contracted by eating raw vegetables or drinking infected water. Make sure to:
- Drink only bottled beverages with sealed tops, preferably a name brand. If you must drink tap water, boil it or use sterilization tablets, which you can obtain from your local pharmacy.
- Eat cooked food and make sure it is hot. Don´t eat raw vegetables unless they have been thoroughly washed and peeled.
- Wash your hands regularly.
Ask your doctor for additional information. - Protect yourself against malaria, it can kill you. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes found in most tropical countries, which usually come out between twilight and daybreak. A course of preventive treatment is highly recommended. To avoid insect bites, wear protective clothing and spray insect repellent on any exposed parts of your body. - Heat and sun can also be harmful: Remember to bring a high-SPF sunblock cream or lotion. - Avoid venereal disease! Remember to protect yourself (condoms) whenever you travel. |
